Massage Therapy
Massage therapy uses hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body to gain therapeutic response. Soft tissues include muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia. Massage therapy provides a natural alternative to help alleviate soft tissue discomfort associated with everyday occupational stresses, muscular over-use and many chronic pain syndromes such as fibromyalgia, Fasciitis, osteoarthritis, sports injuries, pregnancy and general relaxation.
Soft Tissue Work The lymph system a circulatory system of vessels, spaces and nodes which carries lymph, the almost colourless fluid that bathes the body's cells. The lymph nodes are small glands that act as filters for the lymph system, removing bacteria etc. from the lymph as it passes through the nodes. These nodes produce white blood cells and antibodies to help the body defend against infection. Lymph nodes are scattered throughout the body in clumps, principally in the hand, neck, face, armpits, chest, abdomen, pelvic region, groin and legs. In addition to the lymph nodes, the lymph system also includes three other lymph organs: the spleen, the tonsils and the thymus. Part of the function of the spleen is to produce white blood cells and to help the lymph nodes act as a filter. The tonsils and the thymu Unlike the cardiovascular system, the lymph system does not have a pump like the heart, but rather relies on general body activity and motion to induce circulation. Inadequate lymph circulation can result in incomplete elimination of cellular waste products and toxic accumulations within the body. The resulting elevated levels of toxins can be a major factor in poor cell metabolism and the onset of a wide variety of specific and non-specific health problems. To promote lymphatic circulation and to loosen waste materials clogging the system, lymphatic tissue work, an old and frequently prescribed European tissue drainage therapy is being used at the Heritage Health Centre with encouraging results. Unlike massage techniques which rely upon machine stimulation, this approach allows the practitioner to identify trouble areas and to give them special attention. The human touch is all important.
These massage treatments are likely to loosen toxic waste materials which must move throughout your body to be eliminated. Although this may initially cause you to feel worse than before, it is actually a good sign and will be a temporary effect. Continuing treatments will encourage more rapid elimination of these toxins and improved health.
