Chiropractic CareSome Background Your state of health is important to us. For this reason, we believe that it is vital to have your nervous system as healthy as possible by keeping the spine maintained and problem free through regular chiropractic visits. On your first visit, your Doctor of Chiropractic will conduct a thorough comprehensive physical examination of your clinical health condition. This includes a detailed health history, physical examination including orthopaedic, neurologic and systems review as well as special testing if the clinician feels necessary. This may involve referral to a medical specialist or further investigation via radiology, CAT Scan or MRI. If prior x-rays were done, it is preferable to bring the films on the first visit. After reviewing all the pertinent clinical information, the Doctor of Chiropractic will arrive at a working diagnosis and a plan of management in order to correct the underlying neuromusculoskeletal problem to keep the spine and body as healthy as possible. This involves a series of regular chiropractic visits to restore healthy nerve transmission so that the body can innately express and heal itself. The length and duration of visits are determined by several factors including chronicity and severity of the problem, age and overall health. Usually more frequent visits are required at the beginning of treatment in order to reduce symptoms. Once the spine is stabilized, the next stage of treatment involves a corrective rehabilitation program to the injured and weakened muscles and soft tissues so that the spine can function at its’ optimum and remain pain free.
The last stage in the treatment plan involves maintenance care or periodic check-ups to keep the spine healthy and problem-free. Just like regular visits to your dentist or optometrist can identify and eliminate potential health problems, so can regular scheduled visits in your chiropractic care program. It is important to note that no two people are alike in terms of their spinal health. We are all created individually and are biochemically unique in our genetic predisposition and make-up. For this reason, every chiropractic care program is tailored to suit the individual needs and there is no “recipe” or “cookie cutter” approach to treatment. Therefore, it is not uncommon for your chiropractic visits to last anywhere from 20 minutes to half an hour, depending on your need.
