Treatment Modalities

Acupuncture/Acupressure

Acupuncture is a discipline which utilizes the stimulation of specific points on the surface of the body called meridians to generate therapeutic response. The efficacy of acupuncture which dates back more than 3000 years, is utilized in pain control and to stimulate the body’s healing mechanisms. Research also shows that acupuncture effectively addresses addictions. We usually employ it in conjunction with other modalities such as pulsed magnetic field therapy to enhance the therapeutic effect.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic care encompasses the natural art, science and philosophy of allowing the body to heal itself through the inborn innate healing mechanism that we all possess.

This is achieved through a process of gentle corrective techniques and procedures called a spinal adjustment to restore balance and homeostasis to the body via the nervous system.

Every major organ to the single cell is controlled by the nervous system. Furthermore, this system is divided into 3 distinct components: the central nervous system which is made up of your brain and spinal cord; the peripheral nervous system which branches out from the spinal cord to all parts of your body and the autonomic nervous system made up of the sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions which regulate various functions such as digestion, heart rate and respiration.

The daily demands and stress that we place on our body such as work, physical sports activity, gardening to workplace injuries and trauma from accidents can cause the spinal joints to become fixated and misaligned. This in turn causes disruption to the nervous system which can interfere with the normal functioning of the body.

Chiropractic can thus restore and optimize body function by correcting the underlying cause of problematic spinal fixations called subluxations. When treatment is combined with healthy lifestyle changes, diet and a corrective/preventative exercise program, the nervous system begins to express itself and the body begins to heal itself naturally.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is the hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body to gain therapeutic response. Soft tissues include muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia. Massage therapy provides a natural alternative to help alleviate soft tissue discomfort associated with everyday occupational stresses, muscular over-use and many chronic pain syndromes such as fibromyalgia, Fasciitis, osteoarthritis, sports injuries, pregnancy and general relaxation.

Nutrition

Nutritional considerations are central to addressing root causes as part of a synergistic combination of therapies. We begin by examining your present condition and lifestyle and as a first step in addressing your nutritional requirements. This commonly involves dietary revision and supplementation as a cornerstone to provide the body with the essential constituents it needs to heal itself.

Other areas of clinical nutrition include: orthomolecular nutrition, detoxification and weight loss programs, exercise and sports enhancement, rejuvenation and well being.

Pulsed Magnetic Field Therapy

(Pulsed) Magnetic Field Therapy or MFT as it is commonly referred to, is a physical modality that has been used successfully to treat numerous conditions ranging from sports medicine to internal applications such as colitis/Irritable Bowel Syndrome, osteoarthritis, migraine headaches and more.

First introduced in Europe over 30 years ago, it is a branch of Bio-Energetic Medicine now common in North America which has been used effectively to treat chronic conditions by bringing healing to the cellular level.

The body possesses a bio-electric field as demonstrated with a brain wave scan or an ECG of the heart, for example. When an injury occurs or a disease process sets in, the bio-electric or magnetic field to the area becomes disrupted. Local blood flow to the area becomes impaired thereby limiting the body from receiving vital oxygen and nutrients for the cell to heal. In turn, toxic waste products build up from constant inflammation and a process called progressive vicariation eventually leads to cellular death.

PMFT restores the body’s natural polarity and promotes circulation to the affected area thereby breaking the pain cycle and reducing inflammation. For this reason, pulsed MFT is commonly used in conjunction with acupuncture to enhance the therapeutic response in the gateway theory of pain control.
